The author and owner of this site is Dr Geoff Hare.
Geoff Hare studied at Hull University. He spent 30 or so years teaching and researching in higher education, in Leeds, Aberdeen, Bradford, Paris and Newcastle-on-Tyne. His areas of specialism have ranged from 19th century French literature and social history, to contemporary media, sport and leisure studies. Much of his best work has been done with his colleague and co-author Hugh Dauncey at Newcastle University, where Geoff also served for a period as Head of the School of Modern Languages. Having retired early his current interest is in the Gordon Bennett family’s exploits – from Scotland to New York, Paris and the Mediterranean. He now lives in Edinburgh to be nearer his family.
